An Art Market was held in Lapangan Pusat Pelayanan Basic Science (PPBS) Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) as one of the events in celebration of 67th Dies Natalis Universitas Padjadjaran on Monday (02/09). Showcasing cultures from fourteen countries, such as China, Sudan, Timor Leste, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea, and many more. The event aims to provide cultural exploration and broaden new knowledge regarding international students’ cultures in Unpad.
Opened at 8 AM, a ton of visitors were patiently standing in line to hand out food vouchers from the organizer, even though the weather was very hot. Each of them granted two food vouchers from different countries, also a photobooth voucher for accessing the photoshoot session. The food voucher is an exchange ticket for one of sixteen stands of food that were available to be tasted by the attendees. The booths not only serve food, but also provide beverages.
This event also stages a competition regarding what food and shows that are most desired. Visitors have to scan an available QR code that was pasted in every corner of the stands. Certainly, they possess their own interest towards the dish that was served. Hence, the voting must be so varied and vast from one dish to another.
“I haven’t tried Pakistani food yet, but I really wanna try it. Because I love middle-east dishes,” Nizam, a Fisip in Unpad students, stated.
“I want to try the Pakistani food as well, but I am way more curious with the Chinese food because of the tanghulu.” Alif, a Fapsi student in Unpad, said.
Besides, the event also presents an exhibition from diverse countries, such as singing and dancing. The show is not limited to the international students, but also embraces the locals.
Unpad students were highly encouraged to attend the event since it profoundly grants a new experience and knowledge expansion regarding the heritages from around the world.
“First of all, (students must visit the event) since (it is able to) expand networks. Also, in order to give knowledge for Unpad students about international students in Unpad. Besides, this serves as a medium for international students to promote their culture to the local,” Elok, an Art Market decoration staff, explained.
“International students can express their cultures to local Unpad students. So, they know how Chinese food looks like, how Pakistani food looks like, how their art looks,” Ilham, an FIB student in Unpad, added.
