Warta Kema – The Backstreet Boys are coming back with an exclusive show called “Into the Millennium” at the Sphere in Las Vegas to mark the 25th anniversary of their hit album, catching long-time fans by surprise. The show took place from July 11 to August 26, 2025. As of current, the Backstreet Boys are ready to extend their Sphere Residential Show until early 2026, from December 26, 2025, to February 15, 2026.

The Backstreet Boys are an American pop boy band consisting of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. The band was formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida. Backstreet Boys are considered to be one of the most successful groups in music history. During their time, they have delivered chart-topping pop music through their album “Millennium” with over 24 million copies sold worldwide and were nominated for five Grammy Awards.

The Backstreet Boys’ residential concert “Into the Millennium” at the Sphere venue, Las Vegas, has been a hugely successful show. Fans were not just amazed by the musical performance, but also by the sci-fi-inspired concept that brought the futuristic venue.

The futuristic sci-fi concept of the stage was brought as relevance to the album by Baz Halpin, who is a professional producer of live events.

“We remember what that was like. We can remember the music videos. We can remember how they looked. We can remember the brand of it, if you like. So I knew I wanted it to be sort of futuristic sci-fi, but I knew we [also] had to have all the ballads. We had to have all the romance,” said Halpin.

Together with his team, they created balance by embodying the Sphere stage as a space opera, taking inspiration from the Star Wars movies. Halpin also came up with the idea of symbolizing the Millennium as a spaceship from the aforementioned franchise, which is the Millennium Falcon, that reminded fans of the video clip of “Larger than Life”. The spaceship that was designed through this creative process made its first appearance at the show with the word “Millennium” on the back of it, which stunned the audience due to its entrance flight into the venue, and its stunt that mimicked a blast-off into space.

In terms of visual effects, the concert featured many notable elements, which included not only a giant LED screen but also a floating stage. One moment that stood out was the sequence of robots dancing to the group’s songs along with performances of “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. Additionally, there was also a giant disco ball with its reflections showcasing a stunning array of colors. All the elements that were designed for the show enhanced the key visual features already present at the Sphere.

With all of those special effects in a venue equipped with advanced technology, it made the concert spectacular and the audience felt as if they were going on an epic journey through the galaxy. Many of them posted their moments on social media such as Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, using hashtags like #BackstreetBoys, #SphereVegas, and #IntoTheMillennium.

On TikTok, Brian Littrell’s “white-knuckled death grip on a metal safety bar as the band soars 75 feet above the stage” became a viral moment on TikTok because it displays how he challenges his fear of heights in the show.

Besides the members, the visuals of the show also went viral in X, where one “viral reaction” tweet described: “Holy smokes….seen clips of every act that has performed @SphereVegas and nothing I’ve seen comes close to this @backstreetboys opening….and how did they just appear like that,” as tweeted by @WUTangKids.

On Reddit, there were many fan conversations about the show and how the residency went viral. One of the Reddit users stated that Backstreet Boys at the Sphere was an epic and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Another fan also shared about the ticket prices and how they are so expensive, to which another fan replied.

“The residency has gone viral & ticket resellers are taking advantage” as replied by ImageEducational572 on Reddit

This also shows how a love of science fiction plays a part in creating the “best concert” according to director Joseph Kahn. He was the director of two of the group’s most iconic videos, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “Larger than Life”.

He said the show was mind-blowing, “You think I’m joking. I’m not. Perfect blend of their performance, creativity, charisma, and visuals. Think of the way people felt about the opening of Star Wars in ’77 turned into a concert. You have to see it to believe it,” he said on X.

One fan named Chantal Waldholz, a millennial, also wrote about her experience throughout the show in her article (Glamour), where she stated that walking into the sphere was magical and the visuals were out of this world. She felt incredible to see so many millennials like her with their friends, letting loose and returning to an era of unbridled happiness, and at that moment, she felt connected to 20,000 strangers. She also got nostalgic about her previous experience of the group’s “Millennium” concert in 1997; she felt immense joy as she walked out of the Sphere that night.

The process of making the show was a lot of work; there were so many ups and downs. Halpin explained that sometimes his ideas didn’t always come to fulfillment because they didn’t quite fit the performance or they didn’t look nearly as good as the movie. But he was still proud of his hard work and glad that some of his inspirations could help utilize the incredible venue and the bands celebrating 25 years of their iconic album.

“I am thrilled for them. I think they deserve every moment of it. I think that people probably underestimated their power when they were announced as a band, and I think that now people are seeing that they’re the perfect band for the Sphere,” said Halpin.

The Backstreet Boys “Into the Millenium” concert at the Sphere demonstrates the balance between nostalgia and innovation. The group has successfully reintroduced their classic hits to the new generation through futuristic visuals, powerful performances, and a strong connection to the fans. With the band continuing the concert into 2026, the Backstreet Boys are proving that their music and stage presence are as timeless and influential as ever.
